Scientific Anglers Announces a New Tippet Spool Design for 2012

April 30, 2012
Author: Trout's Staff

Scientific Anglers is pleased to announce the debut of their redesigned tippet spool and updated label graphics. The new spool features an independent, free wheeling hub that allows the tippet spool to spin freely when joined together. The hub can be retracted to become flush with the spool body when used alone, or with other tippet spools on the market. Each of the spools are color coded to correspond to the tippet material type. Green for freshwater nylon, blue for saltwater hard mono, and orange for fluorocarbon. The spools are also molded with UV inhibitors to help protect the tippet from degenerating UV rays. Built into the spool rim is a razor to cut the material right where you want it. The tippet material is managed by a color coded tippet retainer band that also has the size of the material printed on it.

They have also upped the ante at Scientific Anglers by giving you more of our award winning material than the competition. Each spool will include 30 meters of material which is approximately 9% more than our competitors.

The new tippet will be launched in four separate waves:

  • Nylon 0X-8X in May 2012
  • Fluorocarbon in 0X-7X in June 2012
  • Saltwater in 10,12,16,20,25 and 30 in July 2012
  • Freshwater nylon and Fluorocarbon in 14,16,20,22,25,30,35 and 40 in August 2012

Per Trout's committment to carrying the latest and greatest fly fishing available, we will have these new tippet offerings both in-store and online as soon as they come available.  We are very excited about this new tippet spool technology, and we trust that it will help elevate the SA brand to the level it deserves given its ulta high quality leader and tippet material.

Guest Post on the Current Conditions at Waterton Canyon

March 8, 2012
Author: Tucker Ladd

The current situation up in Waterton Canyon has been a hot topic this week.  After our post yesterday on the current conditions up in Waterton Canyon, we were contacted by Randy Hampton, Statewide Public Information Officer for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, as he wanted to fill us all in on what his agency is doing to address the concerns of the angling public.  As such, we have decided to give Randy the floor here so to speak, and fill all of us in on what is going on up in Waterton Canyon.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife was alerted by anglers on Monday that fishing was extremely slow in Waterton Canyon over the weekend. This seemed counter to what many anglers had been waiting for and expected after an 18-month closure of the canyon for a Denver Water project to take sediment out of Strontia Springs Reservoir. Upon hearing concerns from several different anglers, our aquatic biologist for the area – Jeff Spohn – headed up to Waterton to take a look on Monday afternoon.

Jeff’s first visit Monday afternoon was to get an idea of the situation. He talked to a number of anglers and did some looking around on his own. Initially, he was concerned because the stories he was hearing weren’t real positive. Anglers were definitely having a tough go of things. He did see some small fish in the water and did talk to some folks who were catching a few smaller fish. It was enough that Jeff decided to head back out on Tuesday to get a better look at the situation.
