Guess Denver Trout Unlimited’s bar tab and win…

Last time Denver Trout Unlimited threw a social gathering at the Skylark Lounge they racked up a measly $384 bar tab.  On May 22, the Carp Slam VI Season Launch party is happening and we’re taking bets: guess next week’s bar tab at the Skylark and win a Tim Romano original cover print (Angling Trade cover image December 2010 and subject of a Backpacker Magazine article*).    We’re playing “The Price is Right” rules - closest to the pin without going over wins.

Here’s how you play: send your best guess of the tab to will@troutsflyfishing.com.  Please be specific and take it to the penny ($XXX.XX).  The results and the winner will be announced on May 23 and the winner notified via email and announced on Facebook.  Last call for entries is 5:00pm (MST) May 22.

Please feel free to join Denver Trout Unlimited and the gear heads from Trout’s Fly Fishing as we attempt to rack up a hefty tab and talk fly fishing on the DSP.  You won’t find more Denver South Platte carp geeks under a single roof on a Tuesday night...anywhere on this planet.

* Back Packer: "Let’s start with this amazing image. What was your process for making this photo?

Tim Romano: Not so sure it's amazing, but thanks for the vote of confidence. Well, some buddies and I rode what's called the Steelhead Train in eastern Oregon. Shot it [Nikon d700, 20-35mm lens, 1/80 second at f/7.1, ISO 250] and threw some tilt and shift magic via PS on it, and viola. That's about it.

Big thanks to Tim Romano for donating his print to DTU.

Scientific Anglers Announces a New Tippet Spool Design for 2012

April 30, 2012
Author: Trout's Staff

Scientific Anglers is pleased to announce the debut of their redesigned tippet spool and updated label graphics. The new spool features an independent, free wheeling hub that allows the tippet spool to spin freely when joined together. The hub can be retracted to become flush with the spool body when used alone, or with other tippet spools on the market. Each of the spools are color coded to correspond to the tippet material type. Green for freshwater nylon, blue for saltwater hard mono, and orange for fluorocarbon. The spools are also molded with UV inhibitors to help protect the tippet from degenerating UV rays. Built into the spool rim is a razor to cut the material right where you want it. The tippet material is managed by a color coded tippet retainer band that also has the size of the material printed on it.

They have also upped the ante at Scientific Anglers by giving you more of our award winning material than the competition. Each spool will include 30 meters of material which is approximately 9% more than our competitors.

The new tippet will be launched in four separate waves:

  • Nylon 0X-8X in May 2012
  • Fluorocarbon in 0X-7X in June 2012
  • Saltwater in 10,12,16,20,25 and 30 in July 2012
  • Freshwater nylon and Fluorocarbon in 14,16,20,22,25,30,35 and 40 in August 2012

Per Trout's committment to carrying the latest and greatest fly fishing available, we will have these new tippet offerings both in-store and online as soon as they come available.  We are very excited about this new tippet spool technology, and we trust that it will help elevate the SA brand to the level it deserves given its ulta high quality leader and tippet material.
