Michael Gracie is a….., no he’s more of a……, well it’s hard to say exactly what he does for a living, but he runs a kick ass blog (www.michaelgracie.com), and has a great presentation about how to apply technology to fly fishing.  Specifically, he will be in the shop covering how to use satellite imagery and GPS tools to make your fly fishing pursuits more enjoyable (and less costly).  This is a totally one of a kind presentation, and I can say from first hand experience that it is totally worth everybody’s time to come by and see some of the ideas Gracie has conjured up.  And if nothing else, he’s a fun guy to sit around a fly shop with and chat over a some FREE BEER.  Hope to see you all there!

Pool 32

Just found this new online fly fishing magazine.  Although these things seem to be popping up like weeds in spring, this one offers a unique perspective on fly fishing with a European twist.  Makes me want to jump across the pond and give it a try!

Thread: Gordon Griffith‘s 14\0 Black
Head: Black Tungsten Bead
Tail: Lemon Wood Duck Flank
Abdomen: Hareline Micro Tubing
Wingcase: Thin Skin w\single stand of flashabou then epoxied
Thorax: Peacock Herl
Legs: Lemon Wood Duck Flank

Will on the STD Baetis:

STD   (aka: Sands’ Tungsten Deception)

This critter began about five seasons ago.  It originally started while attempting to create a two toned body for streamer patterns, but they never really came to being.  Then I began fumbling around with weaving mayfly nymphs. The weaving was fun and challenging.  The overall problem as I switched between different materials was finding something that would create a nice tight body tapered enough to imitate the naturalness of small mayfly nymphs. After a day tying midges with a bunch of Hareline’s Micro Tubing, I began weaving with the stuff.

Simms Fishing Products has always been an industry leader in terms of product development, service and quality.  But with this program they have upped the ante in terms of what other companies will have to do to match their commitment to top notch customer service.

Here’s how it all works.  Starting on Wednesday April 14, bring in ANY pair of waders (it doesn’t matter how old they are, from what manufacturer you got them from, or how much they leak) to Trout’s Fly Fishing, and you’ll receive $50 OFF any purchase of G4 Guide, G4 Pro, G3 Guide or G3 Guide Convertible Waders, or $25 OFF any purchase of Headwater, Women’s Headwater or Headwater Pant Waders.

But hurry, because this promotion won’t last long.  Customers have until May 31, 2010 to swap out their old waders for a pair of the only waders made in the USA!
