Colorado Fishing Conditions

A brief summary of fishing conditions for rivers and lakes across Colorado.  These reports include Real Time River Flow information, a brief synopsis of the current conditions, as well as a general rating system.  Some reports will be linked to Affiliate Fly Shops that help us keep our reports as up-to-date as possible.

Arkansas River - Below Pueblo Reservoir Flow: Rating:

Stable flows coming out of Pueblo, making for good fishing and BWO & Midge hatches. The best way to fish this stretch is to start walking the river until you find fish.


Arkansas River - Buena Vista Flow: Rating:
Conditions:

The upper stretch of the Ark is cold! Snow is starting to build and the river will soon have to much ice on the banks to fish. Head further down the Arkansas for warmer temps and better fishing.


Arkansas River - Canyon City Flow: Rating:
Conditions:

Fishing will be tough on this stretch of the Arkansas, Ice is starting to form and snow is starting to build up. Head below Pueblo Res. to have a more enjoyable day of fishing!


Arkansas River - Leadville Flow: Rating:
Conditions:

Fishing is poor on this section of the Ark. Move further downstream to find warmer temps and better conditions.


Arkansas River - Salida Flow: Rating:
Conditions:

BWO's and Midges are hatching throughout the day, the Ark will fish best midday as this is when solar and water temps will be their highest, making both Rainbows and Browns active.

Colorado River - below Glenwood Springs Flow: Rating:

Fishing is good right now on the Colorado. BWO's are the predominant hatch, midges will hatch intermittenly throughout the day. Throwing streamers is a good choice when bugs arent hatching.

On the upper stretch of the Pan Eggs, and Mysis have producing fish. The dry fly fishing has been good when the Baetis and Midges hatch but in between hatches throwing a streamer is always a good idea on the Pan this time of the year.

Expect to move the majority of your fish underneath on either a small baetis/bwo emerger or red quill spinner...yep you read that right.  Drown those spinners under an indicator with a bit of split shot and you'll turn some fish.

Cold temps in the Gunnison Valley, but fishing on the East is good until it freezes over. Midges and BWO's will hatch more in the afternoon, but fishing will be  best mid-day as solar temps are as warm as they will get.


Gunnison River - Black Canyon Flow: Rating:
Conditions:

Flows are holding steady at around 1070cfs, Hoppers have been seen in the canyon, but as for hatches you will see PMD's, Midges, and Yellow Sallies. Bring lots of water and sunscreen, Air Temps have been in the 90's.

The Gunnison is fishing very well with stable flows and great water clarity! Yellow Sallies, Caddis, and PMD's are hatching throughout the day. Streamers and heavy nymph rigs are great to use in between hatches.


San Miguel River Flow: Rating:

Flows have dropped on the Sa Miguel making for execellent dry fly fishing!


Taylor River Flow: Rating:

Flows are holding steady on the Taylor, and the fishing has remained light out .  Keep in mind that a majority of the fish will be holding along the bank lines, so approach the river with stealth and caution. Head to the Catch and Release below…

Rio Grande River Flow: Rating:
Conditions:

Flows are leveling out, but are still pretty high on the Rio Grande. Dry Fly fishing is at its best on the RIO! Drakes,Yellow sallies, PMD’s, Golden Stones, & Caddis are hatching. Hoppers, Beetles and Ants have also produced fish.

The flows out of Navajo have dropped making fishing conditions great! The fish are hungry after this season's heavy runoff. A Pure Midge pattern size 18-20 trailed by a chocolate or black RS2 will move fish as well as small red and black Ant patterns…

You may find some open water, but mostly iced in.  Look for a true winter tailwater such as Cheeseman or Big Thompson below Estes.

Middle Fork South Platte River Flow: Rating:
