Weird. That was my first initial response when I was spooling my sample of Airflo's Clear Tactical WF4F line onto my reel. Cool. That was probably my second response as I fished it for the first time late last fall on the S. Platte River in Eleven Mile Canyon.
A good line, but not for me.
I still remember the first pair of Simms waders I ever purchased. They were the old Simms Classic Guide Weights, khaki version that set the industry ablaze when it came to being lightweight, highly breathable and incredibly durable. That was 13 years and 3 pairs of waders ago! Now on my second pair of G3's, the first finally going into retirement last year, I'm pleased to say that the Simms brand still sets the bar that all other waders within this industry are...
I have been fishing this rod series exclusively for the past 5 months, and I can say with 100% honesty that the new BIIIX is an amazing rod.
I purchased this line as an all around warm water line in an 8wt. Rio's Outbound taper is an absolute rocket. Shooting miles of line and turning over big flies is no problem, shooting line and casting is definitely this lines strong suit. The distinct color transition between head and running line is a great added feature, as you can see exactly where the line loads the rod. Versatility and durability is not the greatest.
I currently have this line set up on my Scott STS 9wt for big toothy critters, and it also saw action in the Salt Marshes of Louisiana battling some feisty Red Drum. As for as the taper is concerned, this line is ideal for BIG flies and less than ideal wind conditions. The large, short head can push a 10" muskie streamer through the wind and right into the weed line. It is definitely a powerful taper, and shooting line is no problem.
When I got my Simms Guide Boots in January 2009, it was the first pair of Simms wading boots that I had purchased in about 5 years. Two years and countless days later, my initial reaction to the boots still holds true. They were as comfortable on my last day in them as they were on my first.
If you're looking for a sunglass and more importantly a lens that will actually improve your vision, look no further then the Costa 580 Glass Lens. Arguably this is the single best lens I've ever worn.
