Gear Review: Scott S4S 990-4 Fly Rod

Scott fly rods are constantly exceeding my expectations, and this Colorado made gem is no exception. Fast and powerful, yet still light in the hand, I did not experience any fatigue after a full day of casting at spooky Redfish. This rod is fast, but not overly stiff, so you are still able to feel it load on the back cast and maximize your forward punch.

What We Say:

Scott fly rods are constantly exceeding my expectations, and this Colorado made gem is no exception. Fast and powerful, yet still light in the hand, I did not experience any fatigue after a full day of casting at spooky Redfish. This rod is fast, but not overly stiff, so you are still able to feel it load on the back cast and maximize your forward punch. Aesthetically, Scott rods are true beauties, emphasizing the strength enhancing fiberglass scrim and subtle, but beautiful iridescent blue wraps. While visually attractive, this rod is still definitely built for work. The REC recoil guides are unparalleled in their ability to bounce back from mistakes that would just plain ruin other rods. The anodized, engraved reel seat and titanium stripping guides ensure that this stick will not fall victim to the advances of harsh salt corrosion. This fly rod is definitely the total package from a local, unique rod builder.

Last Minute Thoughts:

This rod was a joy to fish!! Very capable at handling any thing you can throw at, or with it.
