New Product Spotlight: Patagonia Packs and Vests

At Trouts Fly Fishing we are continually evolving our equipment, gear and fly fishing apparel offering both in the shop and our online store.  We just received a shipment of waist packs, sling packs and travel bags that were hand picked from the new 2014 Patagonia line.  We like this gear a lot and we think you will as well. Here are a few items that caught our attention early on and a brief summary of what you can expect to find from Patagonia.

Here are a few items that caught our attention early on and a brief summary of what you can expect to find from Patagonia.

Patagonia Vest Front Sling

If you are having a tough time deciding between a traditional fishing vest and sling pack look no further.  Patagonia has combined the two for a best-of-both-worlds solution. The Vest Front Sling features a vertical-pocket vest configuration on one side, with a larger storage pack on the other. Accessing either is simple; just swing the side you want around to the front without having to take it off. Other features include:

  • Vertical pocket vest front with sling back combines the best of both worlds 

  • Rear pod can swing around to front without removing garment for easy gear access 

  • Nylon utility keeper provides secure point to attach zinger, nippers etc. 

  • Internal quick-access pockets for tippet spools; organizing pockets with hook-and-loop closures; internal 100% waterproof welded security pouch 

  • Back zipper closer provides plenty of storage for lunch, jacket and fly boxes 

  • Vest: 6.25-oz 210-denier 100% polyester 3-D spacer mesh. Inside pocket: 5.8-oz 100% polyester. Shoulder harness and back panel: 4.55-oz 100% polyester

Patagonia Stormfront Sling 20L

After a long day of horizontal rain or pounding tropical storms, the last thing you want to do is spend the evening unpacking your vest or bag to dry everything out. It's even worse when saltwater is involved and you have to rinse it all first.  If you are looking for a fully waterproof sling pack as a solution the Patagonia Stormfront Sling is a pack you should look at.  Features include:

·      100% waterproof, fully-welded construction with a single-side TPU coating 

·      100% waterproof TIZIP® zipper with waterproof materials and construction; grab handles; exterior rod tube holder and D-ring for net attachment Laser-cut Hypalon® gear holder on main pack and on front of strap 

·      Comfortable 100% polyester 3D spacer mesh on back and on backside of adjustable sling strap Internal mesh zippered pocket for gear 

Patagonia Sweet Pack Vest 28L

Patagonia’s new Sweet Pack Vest is designed for anglers who are willing to go the extra mile (or ten) in search of the sweet spot. This combination daypack/fishing vest is engineered to comfortably carry and organize everything you need for your entire day on the trail and on the water. Made from tough, highly water-resistant 840-denier coated ballistic nylon with a durable water repellent finish, the Sweet Pack Vest's main compartment features multiple interior pockets for fly boxes, tippets and gear, exterior Hypalon® lash points on pack and shoulder straps, dual side water bottle pockets and an internal hydration bladder pocket.  The next time you plan to explore a deep canyon, this is a pack worth considering.  Other features include: 

  • Polyurethane coated 840-denier 100% ballistic nylon is highly water repellent, durable and protects contents 

  • Exterior YKK® zippers are highly water repellent; stretch-woven polyester covers foam on back for ventilation

    Everyone has their favorite time of year and a subsequent favorite type of fly.  Some prefer early season caddis, other pegging eggs in the spring and fall, or maybe big streamers throughout the year.  Myself, I'm a confessed hopper man.
