“Set…Fish On!” - Colorado River 8/22
When an old friend from out of town calls and wants to go fishing, you go!
About a month ago, a friend and mentor of mine called and said that he and few co-workers would be in town and everyone wanted to go fly fishing. I put together a few options for them and after they looked over the proposal they decided on a float trip with our friends up the mountain, Vail Valley Anglers. We've been pretty busy around the shop the past few months, and after launching our revised website on Wednesday I was thrilled to be able to spend a full day on the water.
I woke up at 5:30 am after only a few hours of sleep and quickly gathered my things and was out the door. As I walked to the car, I looked up and down the street noticing how everything was wet from the rain we recieved the night before. Weather Underground was calling for cloudy conditions around Kremmling with a high of 70 so I knew we would be set for a day. On the drive up 70, I realized I had forgotten my rain coat as I encountered a few small showers up the mountain but once I arrived in Edwards just after 8:00, the rain simply stopped for the day.
After briefly stopping at Rancho Del Rio to organize our shuttle for the day, we caravaned over to Radium where our guides, Rob Waters and Dan Rejda, prepared our drift boats for a full day out on the water. After a quick safety talk we pushed off and began fly fishing.
Early in the day, we caught quite a few brown trout on a hopper, dropper, dropper rig. We used bigger chubby chernobyls and switched out our bottom flies throughout the day based on what we were seeing come off the water.

The food that Vail Valley Anglers provides is absolutely amazing. We stopped at Bench #1 and fished a little before getting back out on the water.

We caught a few rainbow trout, but the majority of the catches were brown trout.
Thanks to Rob and Dan, from Vail Valley Anglers, we had an awesome time on the Colorado River!
