To meet some of the folks from Scott and to test cast the entire line of fly rods, stop by our Casting & Cocktails event tonight – April 24th - at Washington Park from 5-7pm. We’ll be at the South East corner of the park, the closest cross streets being Louisana and Gilpin. This...
We spent quite a bit of time getting prepared for barracuda before we left for our trip to South Andros Island (you can check out our how-to 'cuda rig videos on our blog as well). Once we were there, we spent more time stalking these aggressive fish on the flats - both on foot and from the boat. It took a little while to crack the code, but we were finally able to connect.
Our pals over at Gink And Gasoline and Nautilus Reels put together this time-lapse video of a reel being constructed. We spend quite a bit of time talking to our customers about machined aluminum reels that are designed, manufactured and tested right here in the United States. This video is a great example of how it is done.
In our last two Simms Video Spotlights, we focused on the G3 Guide Stockingfoot Wader and the Headwaters Guide Hip Pack. Today we’ll take a look at the Simms G3 Guide Boot. This wading boot is Bombproof… with a capital B.
Here is a taste of flats and bonefish eye candy from our pals up at Simms Fly Fishing- not to mention a surprise species at the end. Enjoy...
We’ve been working with quite a few clients who are going to be traveling to salt water destinations. One natural element that anglers are often times challenged by – both here in Colorado in ocean fisheries – is wind. Here is a quick video created by the Orvis Company that gives a few solid tips on how to both overcome windy conditions, but also how to use the wind to your advantage.
Our good pals over at Field and Stream’s Fly Talk are always sharing quick and easy to understand fly fishing tips. This one, about setting your hook downstream vs upstream, will help you avoid pulling your fly from a fish’s mouth and missing that connection.
If you've never connected with Trouts Fly Fishing, here is what it looks and feels like. Last fall, Trouts Fly Fishing and Guide Service headed out to the YR Ranch and spent a few days camping and fishing on the river - throwing both single and double handed rods. We had all kinds of weather and fishing conditions thrown at us. This quick video gives you a chance to experience what we saw on the water in high definition.
At the recent International Sportmen’s Exhibition here in Denver, we spent a lot of time talking to customers about the new 2014 Simms line of fly fishing outerwear – specifically the new wading boots. One of the models that our customers found of interest was the new G4 Boa Boot.
Every so often a piece of media will come across my desk that reminds me of the beauty, splendor and simplicity that is fly fishing for Trout. I have been fortunate to travel the globe in search of exotic species, but trout has always been a fish that grounds me and exemplifies why I love this sport so much.
Photo Courtesy of Deneki Outdoors In preparation for our trip to the Andros South Lodge in the Bahamas in mid March, I’m in a constant state of research and preparation. I haven’t been to South Andros Island in almost 10 years. For many of our clients, this will be their first salt water fly fishing adventure – ever. As part of the planning process, I scoured the interwebs trying to find a decent video that captures some of the situations we’ll...

Photo by Alex Landeen The analogy between big game fly fishing and big game hunting may be a bit tired, but it holds very true. Off the coast of San Diego CA this past weekend, Alex Landeen, Conway Bowman, and I saw both extremes of this paradigm, while hunting for one of the most aggressive predators in the sea with fly rods.
The Drake Magazine is looking for your vote. Make the jump to cast your vote for the Reader’s Choice Best Flyfishing Film of All Time Award.
Rick Mikesell and Alex Landeen are going to attempt to catch a mako shark this weekend with Conway Bowman... on the fly. They might. They might not. That's fly fishing. If they do... you will see it first on our instagram hashtag at #troutsflyfishing. Follow the action all weekend long.
Since we’ve been talking about fishing all over the world this week (and our blogmaster is in Honduras) we figured... “Why not Cuba?” Stay tuned next week for your regularly scheduled Trout’s programming to resume and look forward to a Honduras fly fishing report hot off the press.
Here’s a great video that shows permit being tagged for research and protection purposes courtesy of our friends at F3T and the folks down at World Angling. For more on permit tagging, check out Project Permit, a conservation project sponsored by Costa Sunglasses. Enjoy.

This recent video from the Gallatin River in Montana caught our attention. Chatter from youtube where it was originally posted: Scott: "How did you know this was going to happen?" Johathan: "I was passing by on the way to Big Sky. It must have started 10 minutes earlier. I drove by a section of the stream and saw a brown roiled mess from bank to bank. I drove down stream and found people on a bridge, watching the ice pass under them. I continued down until I...
