If you have never planned a saltwater fly fishing trip before, you might be surprised that the research, planning and preparation that goes into the excursion is half the fun.  How-to, where-to, knots and rigging – all the pieces of the puzzle come together on the flats. Deneki Outdoors has a treasure trove of information on their site about fly fishing for bonefish on South Andros Island.  Between now and March when we depart to one of the most remote islands in the Bahamian chain, we will be sharing some of the more interesting and informative posts we come across - including this one on the perfect bonefish rig.

The Denver South Platte in mid October after the big rain event - big and off color

Scott Willoughby, from the Denver Post, always has interesting local outdoor stories to share.  This one isn’t a fly fishing story specifically, but it should be of interest to anyone who wades the South Platte River.

“While exploring the changed river bottom, I started across a small side channel with several inches of flowing water. I have sunk into what I call "quicksand" along the river many times in the past, but never more than knee deep. So I thought little of it when my first few steps across the channel sunk several inches into watery sand and gravel. I took a few more steps, and suddenly dropped!”

October 25, 2013
Author: Will Rice

It looks like the Drake Magazine has received a few clips from the upcoming WAYPOINTS film which is coming to Denver November 8th.  Make the jump to check out this one from India where Jeff Currier talks about the allure of fishing for golden mahseer.  Golden mahseer are one of the largest cyprinids on the planet (psssst: cyprinids is short for carp). These fish have been known to reach 9 ft length weigh in over 100 lbs.  Tickets for the Denver WAYPOINTS show are still on sale here at the shop and online.

Prep time for our hosted fly fishing trip to the Andros South Lodge has already begun.  For now, it is mental preparation and getting ready again to face-down BIG bonefish in SKINNY water.  If you have never had the opportunity to experience the speed, power, and prowess of a Bahamian bonefish, here’s a great thread and conversation about fly fishing for bonefish to check out over on the Deneki site.
