Out of Office Reply - a kick off to my Key West adventure

May 31, 2014

I felt a certain level of superiority as I sat on the plane awaiting takeoff.  Maybe it was due to the fact I was sitting in first class (a benefit of waiting until the last minute to book your flight, when the price difference between coach and first class is $100), or perhaps is was the fact that I was headed for a 5 day run of tarpon fishing out of Key West.  Ah yes, this is most likely the culprit of my current state of mind.

Looking around the plane, I feel certain that nobody around me (other than my travel and fishing companion) is destined for the kind of toils and adventures I’m in store for.  It slowly starts to sink in, my office for the next 5 days: extensive ocean flats.  Our targeted prey: large migratory tarpon, resident permit, and maybe the occasional bonefish.  Obligations for the next week: eat, sleep, fish, repeat.

As you may know, international destination travel is a pretty big piece of the puzzle here at Trouts Fly Fishing.  This year, the shop is sending our team to the ends of the earth in pursuit of new species and fishing experiences.

Cody Hoeckelberg will be breaking out his passport once again and this time he is heading south of the border.  He’ll be spending a week in early June exploring areas around Cancun and the Yucatan Peninsula.  Here is how the trip is shaping up.

Trouts Guide Service: May Fly Fishing Report

The crowds on the South Platte near Deckers were heavy this past weekend due to Memorial Day and higher flows on other rivers in Central Colorado.  On the positive side, the increased angling pressure didn’t seem to impact the fishing on our recent client trips.  We successfully landed a few rainbow trout that were measured right at the twenty-inch mark as well as a number of smaller brown trout.

Author: Will Rice

Trouts Fly Fishing is a big supporter of Trout Unlimited for a number of reasons.  Why?  Because Trout Unlimited works to protect, conserve and restore Colorado’s coldwater fisheries and their watersheds as well as to bring new anglers into the culture of fly fishing and resource conservation. To that end, Trouts would like to help promote a new program that Trout Unlimited has launched to help encourage more women to get involved with TU’s efforts.  Between now and May 31st TU is offering a FREE membership to any women who want to sign up.  Signing up is EASY.
