Carp Slam 5 Am Winner Trevor Tanner
Trout’s Fly Fishing is pleased to announce that it joined the team of sponsors for the Denver Trout Unlimited Carp Slam fly fishing tournament. The Carp Slam, which this year will be held on August 25th, is a fly fishing tournament where the finest professional and amateur anglers in the region and beyond match wits with the wily and elusive common carp. The purpose of the tournament is to raise money for the reconstruction / rehabilitation of the Urban South Platte River below Chatfield Reservoir and through Denver. Carp are one of the most difficult freshwater fish to pursue on fly – meanwhile the urban South Platte River running through downtown Denver is one of the finest carp fisheries in North America.
“Trout’s Fly Fishing recognizes that the Denver section of the South Platte River is our home water. Denver Trout Unlimited is a fishing organization which is doing something about improving this fishery for the residents of Denver as well as people who come to visit and fish the Mile High City,” said Tucker Ladd, owner of Trout’s Fly Fishing. “We support Denver Trout Unlimited as well as the amateurs, professional guides, and volunteers who participate in this event and everyone who sponsors the tournament. We believe the South Platte River will be a world class fishery one day very soon.”
“Trout’s has been a stalwart sponsor of the Carp Slam as well as a great partner of Denver Trout Unlimited for a number of years,” said Cory Stansbury, President of Denver Trout Unlimited. “Because of this type of sponsorship, support, and long term commitment to the river that Trout’s provides, we are able to put on a high caliber event and raise a great deal of money that goes right back into the river.”
This year Trout’s Fly Fishing will be donating cash as well as prizes for the winning teams. Trout’s would also like to encourage their customers and anyone else interested in improving the river to join them at the awards ceremony at theEvening on the South Platte event directly after the tournament. Denver Trout Unlimited will be hosting this benefit event on Saturday, August 25th at Confluence Park (15th and Little Raven streets) immediately after the Carp Slam. An Evening on the South Platte be held from 7:00pm to 10:00pm, and will include hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine, live music, a silent auction, and the awards ceremony for the 6th Annual Pro-Am Carp Slam.
“The Carp Slam raises funds through entry fees, participant fund raising and generous sponsors like Trout’s Fly Fishing,” said Todd Fehr, Treasurer for Denver Trout Unlimited. “These funds are used to help bring back the bug life and health of the Denver South Platte. Denver Trout Unlimited brings focus on what is going on below the waterline to ensure that the river will be healthy and provide a habitat for trout, as well as bass and carp during both low flows, higher temperatures, and runoff conditions.”
