Summer Fishing Report | July 20, 2011

Hot damn, the Summer fishing season is upon us!  Over the past week, we have seen flows across the state begin to begin to drop, signaling that runoff is finally over. Needless to say, this has been the most bizarre and long lasting runoff cycle I have ever witnessed, so I am very eager myself to finally enjoy some summer fishing.

While flows are still abnormally high for this time of year, freestone and tailwater rivers are all running clear and relatively warm (mid 40's to low 50's).  As a result we have seen an abundance of insect life hatching, and the fish are taking notice by feeding very actively and aggressively throughout the day.  Moving forward through the season there are a few key points that we all need to remember, as fishing conditions for the remainder of the summer will be unlike anything we have experienced in quite some time.

Trout Bum Trips 2011 | Roaring Fork River, August 6-7

The Roaring Fork River is undoubtedly one of the finest freestone rivers in the state of Colorado, and being a short 3 hour drive from Denver, is a great stop for our 2011 Trout Bum Trip schedule.  We've teamed up with Taylor Creek Fly Shop in Basalt, CO to offer our customers 2 days of float fishing down the Roaring Fork.  Early August is consistently a prime time for float fishing this river, as the abundant bug life and active trout make for prime conditions.  But hey, why don't we hear it from the man himself.  Here's what Taylor Creek General Mananger Will Sands has to say about what we can expect the fishing conditions in August to be like:

We are anticipating excellent conditions for floating the Roaring Fork this coming August. We are very fortunate that when many other western freestones are low, a bit too warm and often prove difficult or technical to fish in August that the "Fork" remains very fishy throughout the month.
