Fly Fishing Report: Waterton Canyon June 1st

The first fish I hooked after a six mile bike ride up Waterton Canyon was a 13” or 14” rainbow that ate a red tungsten rojo midge.  The fish took the fly in a small section of slower moving water right in front of a two foot waterfall.  It first came toward me and then turned downstream just as quickly.  I knew that if the fish went into the faster water and over the small falls it was game over – there would be no chase due to the large and loose rocks that surrounded me.  I held the fish as best I could – it finally came up with a big head shake and spit my hook.

When I first came across Howler Brothers, a few lines in their catalog caught my attention.

Something New is Coming to Trouts Fly Fishing

I've owned Trouts Fly Fishing for over 8 years now.  It’s been an exciting run.  Highlights include the move to our vintage location on 6^th and Marion, launching Trouts Guide Service in partnership with Freestone Outfitters, and of course bringing together the most knowledgeable and friendly staff in all the Front Range.  But something new is afoot, and I can honestly say that it has created more buzz within my shop walls than anything else.

I've always kept one question at the forefront of my mind during my tenure as owner: How can Trouts better serve the greater Denver angling community in addition to our other national and international customers?  I've never been one to let the grass grow beneath my feet, and when it comes to product selection I always thought we had our bases covered.  The key word there was thought.
