Every once in a while you have a day of fishing that inspires you.  These are the days when everything comes together the way you expect it to, yet still offers welcome surprises in the way of an empty river, hungry fish, and wonderful company.  For me, this is what makes fly fishing such a wonderful pursuit, and will forever have me coming back for more.

Fly Fishing Report: The Rio Grande River

June 18, 2014
Author: Will Rice

Trouts Fly Fishing just wrapped up our annual hosted trip to the Rio Grande River.  This trip has proven to be a great fly fishing adventure in the past and this year it was no exception.

The big question on everyone’s mind as we packed up our gear and headed out the door: with the abnormally high flows this year across the state, what was the river going to look like and more importantly… would we find the bugs?

The goal of this class is to instill a basic understanding of fly fishing gear, equipment, and essentials to prepare first time anglers for a day on the water.  We also spend quite a bit of time teaching how to tie knots and rigging. We will also have plenty of time for hands on questions and answers. There are currently only two (2) spots available!

New Sage Fly Rod Offerings - available August 2014

In typical fashion, Sage has raised the bar in fly rod and fly reel technology and design.  In conjunction with the start of the European Fishing Tackle Trade Exhibition (EFTTEX) today, Sage has released their new product offerings for the 2014 season to the public.  Please don't ask me why the European Market gets first crack at this new product; it's a question I have been asking internally at Sage for years.  Nonetheless, here's a sneak peak of new product hitting our store in August of this year.

Sage SALT Fly Rod Series

This new saltwater specific fly rod will replace the ever popular Xi3 family, a hugely popular big game cannon that changed what anglers expected of a saltwater stick.  The key change to this new fly rod series is the addition of Konnetic Technology to the rod blank design.  Here's a brief explanation from Sage on the new SALT fly rod:

"Using Konnetic Technology®, Sage created the SALT to load quickly as well as maintain high line speeds and accuracy to land the fly exactly where wary saltwater species demand. The SALT’s robust salt-action taper provides the power needed to cast today’s heavier fly lines and deliver all sizes of flies at any range with precision."

Author: Kevin Cooke

After acquiring a pair of Simms G3 Guide waders earlier this year from Trouts Fly Fishing, I decided it was probably time to purchase a pair of boots. After looking at all of the options Simms currently has on the market, I landed on the Simms Vapor boot and haven’t looked back.
