Cody Hoeckelberg will be giving a special presentation on Wednesday April 23rd from 6-7pm that is mindfully built for beginners who are interested in learning about fly fishing for the first time.  The main goal of this class is to help you master basic knots and rigging.  This class is also designed to help people understand basic fly rod and reel mechanics, what kind of waders and boots are necessary to navigate rivers in Colorado, the difference between nymphs, dry flies and streamers.

Kick’in it on the Big Horn - a Photo Essay

Fishing trips are a special thing.  The utter simplicity of walking away from your day to day life to focus on nothing more than fooling a fish to eat your fly.  A time when the biggest decision you have to make is between 4X and 5X leaders, and what kind of meat you're going to throw on the girll that night.  Is it a Makers night, or maybe should we throw ourselves a curve ball and bust out that bottle of Knob Creek?  Awe yes, fishing trips are a special thing.

My most recent adventure took me North to Big Sky Country to fish the famed Big Horn River.  This river has always been a personal favorite of mine, and for more reasons than the absurd fishing that always seems to come with every visit.  This river is a trout factory, and it just so happens to be located in an area void of the conveniences of modern life slowly adopting some modern conveniences (cell phones actually work in Fort Smith now).  Eat, Sleep, Fish, Repeat.  Yes, a recipe for a World Class Fishing Trip indeed.

Saltwater Gear Review: RIO Bonefish Fly Line

What We Say

I’m a big believer that having the right saltwater fly line matters. I’ve had lines that were too subtle and light which made casting in the wind difficult.  I’ve also had lines that were great to cast in the wind but when they hit the water it was like a bomb exploding – and bonefish don’t like bombs exploding close by.

Saltwater Gear Review: Sage 4280 Fly Reel

The last time I brought a brand new reel down to a saltwater environment without having fished it before, things did not end well.  After the first fish I hooked took it on a blistering 150 yard run the reel failed and I struggled trying to hand line the fish in.  I was not a happy camper.

Saltwater Gear Review: Sage ONE 890-4

What We Say

My favorite trout rod here in Colorado is the Sage ONE 490-4.  It is light – it is accurate – and I can use it in a variety conditions.  I decided to see if the Sage ONE 890-4 would have the same attributes and chose it as my go-to saltwater fly rod on a recent trip to the Bahamas.  I was happy with my decision.
