Trout’s Spotlight: Simms Rivershed Boot

February 21, 2013

Sometimes it is better just to let our satisfied customers do the talking.  We received this email last month about the Simms Rivershed Boot and thought we would share it in case you were trying to make a decision on wading boots for the upcoming season.

"Killed it again this weekend on the Blue River and I have to say I'm ecstatic about those new Rivershed boots!  Super easy on and off and the traction with 5 screws in front and 4 in back is absolutely the best I've ever experienced.  So much better than my old felt guide boots that I had been hanging onto and also a ton lighter so I feel less tired hiking my aXX around.  Went into Cheesman and they were awesome for the long walk and up and down steeps.  No issues with them having a little less material on the ankle for support!"

Trout’s Spotlight: Davel Lovell

"Her first cast she put the fly right in my cheeck.  She thought she was snagged and kept pulling…I was hoping for a long distance release but that didn’t happen. We had a good laugh and I made her take a picture with me with the fly stuck in my face with blood running down my cheek.  I told her she just set a new IFGA world record catching a 150lb White Fish on 4x."

- Dave Lovell

Dave Lovell was born and raised in Colorado and has been fly fishing for 27 years and is the Head Guide at Trout's Guide Service.  Dave’s passion, energy, knowledge and sense of humor make for a memorable, instructive, and valuable day – on or off the river.  We were able to catch up with Dave a few days before he packed his bags and left the good ‘ol US of A bound for the shores of Honduras.

The Things They Carried: Ascension Bay

We were able to catch up with Tucker Ladd, Owner of Trout’s Fly Fishing, right before he walked out the door and hopped onto a plane with his wife Whitney bound for Ascension Bay, Mexico. This area of Mexico is known as one of the most prolific “Grand Slam” fisheries on the planet - where anglers get a shot at bonefish, permit, and tarpon all in a single day. Tucker has spent time fishing saltwater flats before - but for Whitney, sight casting to bonefish, tarpon and permit is a whole new game.

Trout’s Spotlight: Copi Vojta

If you have picked up a recent copy of the Flyfish Journal and have been stunned by the photography, you’ll want to meet the man who helps to make it all happen.  We were lucky enough to catch up with Copi Vojta for a few minutes earlier this week to find out what is going on in 2013, we poached a quick river report for the Roaring Fork River Valley, and picked up a few tips for budding photo journalists interested in breaking into the magazine world of fly fishing.  We also found out that Copi has an aversion to leeches and has aspirations to star in Superbad II… who knew?
