On-Stream Beginner Fly Fishing School - Fishing Report

June 18, 2013
Author: Will Rice

We wanted to give everyone a quick report on our On-Stream Beginner Fly Fishing Class that was held this past Saturday at the Rowdy Trout Ranch.  The Rowdy Trout Ranch is one of our exclusive fishing properties, located the banks of the North Fork of the South Platte River only an hour drive from Denver.  Our students had varied experience fly fishing – with two anglers who had never caught a fish on a fly rod before.

We started out covering the basics of fly fishing including rigging, casting techniques, reading water, basic stream entomology and river safety.  Soon after that we had everyone put their newly acquired skills to the test.  We fished both the still water ponds and the river – and everyone caught fish.  We used San Juan Worms, Guide Choice Pheasant Tails, Jimmy Legs, and even cast a few streamers.

Our head Guide Dave Lovell had this to say about the trip:   It’s always a pleasure watching new anglers put it ALL together.  Mike, Neil and Chris certainly accomplished that and more!  Well done boys!”

Our next On-Stream Beginner Fly Fishing Class is being held at the Rowdy Trout Ranch on July 13th.  Give the shop a call today if you have any questions or would like to sign up – 303.733.1434.
