Breaking News! Trout’s sends shop guys across the planet to fulfill piscatorial dreams! (Whoo hoo!)
Trout's Fly Fishing has decided to switch up the game plan this year. Instead of closing down and packing up the crew to pursue winter bull redfish in Louisiana, the decision was made to let each Trout’s employee write their own travel itinerary and fishing agenda.
No restrictions, international borders don’t matter - the sky is the limit.
Here is how it is breaking down:
Slammin’ on the Yucatan - Tucker Ladd is heading down to Ascension Bay Mexico to the Grand Slam Lodge in pursuit of bonefish, tarpon, and permit. Although Tuck has caught each of these species on one occasion or the other, he has never put together all three in a single day. Another species that Tucker has his eye on: snook. Over the past few years, the resident snook that live among the mangroves in Ascension Bay have become legendary.
Never been permitted - Will Rice has decided to give Honduras a look-see for permit. Will has had shots at this challenging species on numerous occasions in Mexico and Belize but has never connected. He actually has begun to think of himself as an expert on how-not-to-catch-permit. The Island of Guanaja lies due East of Punta Gorda, Belize and is around 40 miles north of mainland Honduras. He’ll be joining Clint Packo (owner), Reid Baker, and Dave Lovell, all who guide for Trout’s Guide Service. Although permit is the aspiration - bonefish, tarpon and snook can all be found swimming the warm Caribbean water surrounding Guanaja.
Feel the steel - Cody Hoekelberg finally filled out an application for a passport and he and Michael Gracie are heading up north. They’ll be heading to the Fraser River in British Columbia with April Vokey. Haven’t heard of April Vokey? Here is a short video of her and a Chinook on the Dean River. Cody and Michael are both looking to put their two handed rods to the test and take their spey casting skills to the next level.
Mako madness - Last up is Rick Mikesell. Rick spends a lot of time chasing anything that swims around town here in Denver so he’s decided he needs a change of pace. To mix it up a bit and to take a shot a species that no one else in the shop has hooked into, Rick will be targeting mako sharks off the coast of San Diego with Conway Bowman. Never seen a mako hooked on the fly? Check this video out to get a feel of what Rick is getting into.
