Trouts Fly Fishing

Current Fishing Conditions:

Fishing has improved greatly on the Colorado River at Pumphouse.  Flows have been on the rise, and this has the bugs moving and the fish feeding.  Stones are going to be your primary attractor pattern for the time being, with BWO's and midges making up the remainder of the trout's diet.  When fishing these big stone patterns, don't be affraid to give the fly some "motion" during your dead drift.  This little added movement can be the difference between a fish taking your fly or letting it pass by.  Streamers will work well, particularly on long swings across the deeper pools and runs.  This is a great time to get out your switch rod and swing some big streamers for hungry trout.

Nymphs:  Jimmy Legs 12-16, Trout Retrievers (black, yellow, brown), Muscrat Stone 8-14, WD-40 18-22 (olive, black), Rojo Emerger 18-22 (olive, black), Copper Johns 12-18

Dries:  Parachute Adams 18-22, Hatchmatcher BWO 18-22, Brooks Sprout Midge 20-24, Special Emerger 20-22, Griffiths Gnat 20-22, Adult Midge 18-22

Streamers:  Sex Dungeon, Barely Legal, Peanut Envy, Bottoms Up

The Colorado River is an amazing place to experience all the beauty that Colorado has to offer.  From dramatic canyons to panoramic vistas, the Colorado has something for everyone.  Spring is a particularly good time to fish this fabeled river.
