Bought this to use in Oregon. I have never fished for steelhead and salmon before. The key to fishing , is the entire outfit, ie. Nice pole, lousy reel. One of the members discussed all my options, my expierance, then made a recommendation. Caught my first steelhead on a fly yesterday. He didn't put me on the most expensive reel, which would have been the end of our conversation, but moved me into one that fit me and my price range. With the 10% off I also bought and had them install rio line with backing. I'm now waiting for a sale like this for a sage 3 wieght. Great company, motivated knowledgable staff. Will definitely come back. (Posted on 8/14/2015)

Admittedly, I've been stubborn and used an old Orvis Clearwater two piece rod for the first 3 years of fly fishing when I moved to Colorado. It was given to me by my mom when I was in my late teens and my theory was: if you can catch a trophy trout with this thing, imagine what you could do with a modern rod. Well I did catch some very large trout, but realized I was always playing them defensively. Spent a lot of time running down river, unable to turn their heads. Finally saw Cody at the shop and said "give me a fly rod that has the $400 price point and that will blow my mind." This is what he reached for, and it is amazing. Has a backbone and I can turn heads now. Accurate, powerful, do it all... real purdy too. Spring has been incredible in Colorado, and I have been chucking streamers and nymph rigs in style. Landed a lot of trout including a 2 footer out of Deckers, and so happy with my purchase!! Dry fly/hopper season will be upon us soon, and I can tell this rod will excel with accurate casts.
