The 2019 Trouts Guide Academy is around the corner and spots are filling up quickly. We only have two spots remaining, so if you're looking to take the next step from accomplished angler to capable and certified guide, act now!
This 6-day course will focus on producing knowledgeable guides who are able to run a quality and successful fly fishing trip (walk/wade & float). We should note, that the focus of the Trouts Guide Academy is to help you take the next step in your fly fishing career and not fly fishing skills.
In addition to oar certification, the course will concentrate on equipment rigging, boat preparation/rigging/maneuvering, guide etiquette, casting instruction, safety, entomology, river knowledge, protocol (do’s and don'ts) and care for the shared outdoor resource. At the end of your six days with our experienced and talented guide instructors, you will have the skills to apply for a job as a fly fishing guide in the state of Colorado.
DATES: Sunday - May 12th, 2019 - Friday - May 17th, 2019
The guide training course includes six days of classroom and on-river instruction from our team of world-class fly fishing guides/instructors. With over 40 years of combined experience, our guides will ensure that you leave the course with the ability to lead successful guided fly fishing trips and refine your existing skills as an angler.
Lodging is not included in the Trouts Guide Academy. Trouts Frisco is located in downtown Frisco and a variety lodging options exist in Frisco and the surrounding towns. For Frisco specific lodging, we recommend the Frisco Lodge, Hotel Frisco, the Frisco Inn, or the Snowshoe Motel.
WHAT TO BRING
Students will need to bring waders, wading boots, a change of clothes, rain jacket, Type III PFD, river knife, whistle, a hat, fingerless gloves, fly rod, fly reel, terminal tackle, flies, sunscreen, snacks and plenty of water. We will provide lunch on the trips but bring extra snacks and beverages if you need.
FIRST AID CPR TRAINING
All River Guides must complete Medic First Aid and CPR training. Before you can be a certified guide you must complete a Medic First Aid and CPR class. However, this is not required to take and complete the course. If you need to complete your First Aid CPR Training, Trouts is happy to refer you to the proper channels. The card is valid for 2 years.
If you are interested in becoming a guide for Trouts Fly Fishing, this course is designed to prepare you to become a professional guide and one that is well-suited and qualified to join our world-class staff. Taking this course by no means guarantees placement on our guide roster, however, we are currently accepting applications for Guides at both our Trouts Denver and Trouts Frisco locations.
