If you are brand new to the sport of fly fishing, you may have had the same experience that 99.9% of beginner anglers also went through as well. Let me describe a little scenario for you.
Excited you finally arrived at the mile marker you wrote down a week ago; you slam the car door shut and briskly head to the water for your first time alone. After the initial adrenaline wears off, you find yourself Standing among the river banks, blankly looking at a fly box, unsure of what to choose.
Sometimes you leave a fly shop with so many flies and a confidence level that is so high until you get to the river. There you are, blankly looking at a fly box, caught in a sort of paralysis by the number of options you have. You squint your eyes thinking back and trying to remember what the guy at the fly shop told you, but nothing comes too. In haste, you pick something that you think will work, completely unsure what the fly is supposed to imitate or how to use it.
While the scenario above could be considered par for the course when it comes to getting started in fly fishing here at Trouts, we want to minimize the experience above as much as possible.
The best way to do this? Take our Bugs For Beginners Fly Fishing Course!
At one point or another, we have been on the water and watched fish seemingly jumping all around us, gorging themselves on the thousands of bugs. As fly anglers, we've heard the expression 'Match the Hatch,' yet we continue scratching our heads while casting to fish uninterested in our flies. Without question, a better understanding of a trout's diet will help improve your success with fly fishing.
Our Trouts Bugs for Beginners class will help demystify the key food sources of trout throughout the year. We will focus on Midges, Mayflies, Caddis, Stoneflies, Terrestrials, and general attractors. Our class is designed and purposed to help you better understand the major insect groups, including identifying and fishing them effectively. You will leave our class with the capabilities to successfully 'Match the Hatch.'
If you were wondering, "Do these classes make great gifts?" The answer is yes! If you are still unsure what to get for the new angler in your life, give the gift of education! We have an extensive list of education opportunities here at Trouts Fly Fishing, and we are sure there is something on the list no matter what level of angler you are!
