After a winter long hiatus, it's time to bring back the Featured Trouts Guide Report of Week. Each week we choose one report from our Guide Reports section of the FISHING INFORMATION page! Click the Guide Report dropdown and you'll find up-to-date Guide Reports from our professional fly fishing guides. Each report will detail the location, timing, hatch information, fly selection, and rigging.
Check out this recent report from Brian Hilbert. Despite the drop in flows, Brian and his clients had a productive day on the South Platte near Deckers. Stay tuned to our Guide Reports section for more reports as we continue to get clients out on the water.
LOCATION: South Platte near Deckers
GUIDE: Brian Hilbert
LENGTH OF TRIP: Full-Day Walk/Wade Trip
"Excellent day at Deckers despite low flows, cold temps, and heavy winds. Fish were congregated in the deeper pools and runs and were feeding heavily on midges. Saw a good hatch from about 10:00am through just after 1:00pm. You could see flashes in the water from trout coming up to eat emerging pupas mid-water column. A size 20 $3 dip in black did most of the damage for us. Fish preferred the flies about 2’ off the bottom during the hatch. During the rest of the day, we caught fish on Mayer's Mini Leech size 14 and a size 20 midge larvae that I tie. We did have some snow blow in the afternoon that seemed to slow the bite but all in all a great day! 20+ hook ups. Good luck out there!"
