As we welcome June, we're excited to bring back an old favorite as a weekly feature - the Featured Trouts Guide Report! If you've spent time on our website over the past couple of months, you might have noticed that we've added a "Guide Reports" tab to the navigation bar. HERE you'll find up-to-date Guide Reports from our professional fly fishing guides. Each report will detail the location, timing, hatch information, fly selection, and rigging.
We're excited to welcome our friends and clients back onto the water with our guides. Clearly, these aren't the old days. We've put a set of best practices into effect for our team of professional fly fishing guides during these times. Those best practices include maintaining appropriate CDC approved social distancing guidelines, equipment including rods and reels will be sanitized after each trip, and traveling to and from fishing in separate vehicles.
Check out this recent report from Scott Dickson. Keep in mind, this report comes from before the recent flow drop, but the bug choice mentioned should be pretty consistent with these lower flows as small bugs will continue to play a bigger role. Stay tuned to our Guide Reports tab, as it will be updated on a very consistent basis as we continue to get clients out on the water.
LOCATION: South Platte River
GUIDE: Scott Dickson
LENGTH OF TRIP: Full Day Walk/Wade
"Fishing continues to be good along the South Platte. I’ve been spending a lot of time walking the banks and finding fish. The sight fishing is great. There are lots of fish that have been on the edge of the swift water feeding. Worms, stones, and leeches have been my lead flies. I’ve been dropping midges and Baetis in the morning and switching midday to caddis and soft hackles."
Best Flies
Miracle Midge #20
San Juan Worm (Tan) #8
RS-2 (Olive) #20
