Featured Trouts Guide Report of the Week - 9/28 Edition

Ivan Orsic / Sep 28, 2021

PRODUCTIVE FLIES

Each week we choose one report from our Guide Reports section of the Guide Report page! Click the Guide Report dropdown and you'll find up-to-date Guide Reports from our professional fly fishing guides. Each report will detail the location, timing, hatch information, fly selection, and rigging. This week's Guide Report is brought to you by our very own Sean Cowman. Read below to hear about Sean Cowman and his recent half-day walk/wade trip on the Blue River at Silverthorne! According to Sean, the fishing is getting a little technical out there so it might be time to size down your flies! Stay tuned to our Guide Reports section of the website for more reports from various rivers as we continue to get clients out on some of our favorite water. The Blue has seen a few noticeable changes as we come into the colder months. However, it still tends to be hit or miss as a whole. The main change is fishing doesn't seem to heat up until a bit later in the day. Coldwater temperatures (42 Degrees) in the morning and colder nights have taken it a bit longer to get going in the morning. The prime feeding window now seems to be from 10:30 am and onward. Once the trout start to feed I have found success on many of my go-to patterns with one other change - they are keying in on eggs now (orange (#16)). Other patterns we found luck with were Rainbow Warriors (#18), Jig Frenchie (#18-20), Foam emerger (#22), and yet again the hopper found its' way into the rotation of successful patterns, use it as an indicator!
