Gear Review: GRAYL Water Filtration Cup

Ivan Orsic / Sep 30, 2015

Without a doubt, one of our favorite new products to hit the store lately is the Grayl Water Filtration Cup.

I'm sure most everyone reading this has been in the following situation: hiking into the river/lake with a backback full of fishing gear, camping gear, food, and bottles of water. That water can really add up from a weight perspective can't it? Or perhaps you've been loading up the cooler for a float down your favorite river and gotten frustrated at how many 'other beverages' weren't able to be backed because you figured being responsible and bringing along a dozen bottles of water would be a good idea. Enter your solution- The Grayl Water Filtration Cup.

Here's how it works:

The Grayl works with a french-press style filtration system that will instantly provide clean, drinkable water no matter where in the WORLD you happen to find yourself thanks to 3 different, interchangeable filter options they give us. Heading across town running errands? Reach for the Tap Filter- designed to be used with (you guessed it) tap water. Headed up into the mountains for a weekend getaway? Then don't forget the Trail Filter. Designed to eliminate all bacteria, protozoan cysts, chemicals and toxins found in the waters of the US. Drinking straight from the river never tasted so good! Lastly, heading to the Jungles of the Amazon for the trip of a lifetime? Then you'll definitely want to get a Travel Filter. The Travel Filter is designed to get rid of everything the Trail Filter does, as well as international viruses! Case in point, considered your hydration bases covered......as long your bring along your Grayl that is.

Each filter provides 300 presses (filtrations) before needing replaced, and at either $59 (plastic outer cup w/ Trail Filter) or $69 (stainless steel outer cup w/ Trail Filter), I think the price is more than fair. Replacement filters run right at $20 or $40 respectively- whether you're looking for another Trail Filter or wanting to upgrade to the Travel Filter.

For more info, watch the video below to see exactly what I'm talking about. After your done with that, watch the second attached video where you can see both toilet water turned drinkably clean, and then the best one of all- they turn actual coca-cola back into water. You've got to see it to believe it!

Step 1: Fill the outer cup with suspect water.

Step 2: Press the inner cup into outer cup with a steady downward pressure.

Step 3: Enjoy!

Step 4: Swing by the shop or visit our online store to get yours today!
