I’m a big fan of Jimmy Fallon’s “Go on, Git!” series on the Tonight Show. So, I thought of Jimmy after reading this recent Press Release by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife announcing that Green Mountain Reservoir has tested negative for quagga and zebra mussels. This is some seriously good news for the Green Mountain Reservoir which tested positive for this invasive species back in 2017 and also hats off to all of those who participated in the mandatory watercraft inspection and decontamination program to help fix the problem. Here is a snip from the Press Release:
“After three years in a row of testing negative for the prohibited quagga mussels, Colorado Parks and Wildlife removed Green Mountain Reservoir in Summit County from the invaded waters list. Green Mountain Reservoir was the last in the state to contain the aquatic nuisance species, making Colorado a completely negative state for zebra and quagga mussels — the only state in the U.S. to de-list all mussel positive waters.”
On a serious note, it is great to see these types of invasive species removed from our fisheries here in Colorado. On a not-so-serious note… “go on and git zebra mussels!”
