Saltwater Gear Review: RIO Bonefish Fly Line

Ivan Orsic / Apr 11, 2014

What We Say

I’m a big believer that having the right saltwater fly line matters. I’ve had lines that were too subtle and light which made casting in the wind difficult. I’ve also had lines that were great to cast in the wind but when they hit the water it was like a bomb exploding – and bonefish don’t like bombs exploding close by. The Rio Bonefish WF 8 was a great line for me on our recent trip to the Bahamas. I matched it up with a Sage ONE 890-4 and a Sage 4280 fly reel. The reel had virtually no memory on the deck of the boat and I very rarely found myself having to untangle it from itself. I also liked the semi-stealth blue color of the line. It was actually a lot easier to see in the water then I originally thought it would be. This is a great all purpose bonefish fly line that can make stealth presentations when it is required.

What They Say

"RIO's bonefish line loads a rod at close range, has a medium length front taper for great turnover, and a long back taper to smooth out the casting loop and keep the line stable on long shots. The line also features AgentX technology, which produces a line that floats high, is easy to pick up and ensures the running line stays afloat. A medium stiff core and hard, tropical coating prevents the line from wilting in most tropical conditions." - RIO
