I hope you all liked last week's first installment of The Tape Deck on Spotify. I got a good amount of emails about song recommendations, keep them coming. Happy to see that I share a lot of the same music tastes as yall. This past Tuesday I saw, Billy Strings and Bill Kreutzmann at Red Rocks, they put on one hell of a show. Does anyone else think the same? I like having this playlist at the end of the week because it allows me to reflect on the past days and summarize the days into a couple of songs. However, I digress. Let's get into this week's wrap up here at Trouts.
Over the past week, we saw some good news for our namesake river. CPW released a statement earlier this week which stated that environmental conditions had improved between Kremmling and State Bridge due to upstream reservoir releases thus lifting the voluntary restrictions upstream of State Bridge. Yesterday, Tucker Ladd - President/Owner Trouts Fly Fishing released a Summer Water Update. In the letter, Tucker gives kudos to CPW in their response to voluntarily closing the Colorado and their swift actions in resolving the issue. He goes on to remind anglers of the numerous and diverse options Colorado has to offer when it comes to fly fishing opportunities.
On Monday we recapped what a great event we had over this past weekend. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our new shop - "Trouts on The Platte". We take pride in our customer service and our shop would not be where it is today without you. So, thank you. In addition to the amazing SOLD OUT event, our Grand Opening event raised over $3100 for Denver Trout Unlimited and their mission to improve the health and habitat below the waterline of the Denver South Platte. All thanks to you, the customer, family, and friends.
On Wednesday our Frisco shop released its monthly, Frisco Fly Fishing Forecast. In the post, Zeke discusses the fantastic options anglers have over the next couple of weeks. After reading through it, any angler would be excited and wish they were on the water yesterday. The key takeaways were that there is a ton of bug life right now, yellow sallies, PMDs, and other mayflies are all hatching, especially along the Eagle River from Avon to Wolcott. If exploring the high country is not your thing and you are looking to stay in town head over to the Frisco shop and they will set you up for a great day on the water.
This week we also had a few in-person classes down at our Denver location. Bugs for Beginners and Fly Tying 101. These classes went great and helped anglers demystify the major food sources for trout throughout the year. Best part? No Latin degree is required. As a fly tying fanatic, it was awesome to see a number of people showing up for our Fly Tying 101 class. Fly Tying 101 is a great stepping stone from our Bugs for Beginners class. Especially if you truly want to learn how trout feed. If you missed these classes don't stress. We have another series of exceptional classes next week. Make sure you head over to our Events Calendar if you are interested in seeing what we have to offer, I am sure there is something for you.
Also, we just added some Bass, Pike, and Panfish to our Staff Picks collection so if warm water is your jam, you are in luck. Be sure to also check out our most recent Trouts Fly Fishing Forecast as well as our Gear Review of the Orvis Guide Sling as well.
We had a busy week here at the shop. All good things. However, that about does it for this week's recap at Trouts. If you need anything before the weekend, make sure you swing by the shop. Come chat and ask your questions or drink a cold one on our back deck. Most of all make sure you are prepared for your weekend on the water.
As always, get out. Gas up the truck, load up the fly boxes and enjoy the weekend.
Oh, and make sure to take The Tape Deck with you.
