The Tape Deck // A Weekly Playlist (Volume 23)

Brandon Rodriguez / Dec 11, 2021

Well, it finally happened. The Denver Metro area received its first dusting of snow for the winter. It was a perfect cap to the end of the week, and it sent the scene for what hopes to be a very snowy winter. In this week's recap, I wanted to highlight our Youtube channel. As many of you know, we are very proud of our Youtube channel here at Trouts. If you are unaware, our Youtube channel is a perfect place for anglers new and old to learn something they previously did not, about the sport of fly fishing. When it comes to our Youtube Channel, we truly have something for everyone, no matter where you are in your fly fishing journey.

As always in these weekly recaps, I like to cover a handful of products we covered over the past week, and I would be remised if I did not cover some of the products mentioned in the THREE videos we put out this week. Enjoy yall.

Five Flies December - Massacre Midge - Brown

It's DECEMBER and winter is almost here. That means midges are generally going to be the primary fare for trout throughout the Colorado Rockies. That certainly doesn't mean that streamers, blue-wings, eggs, and attractors can't get the job done, but midges will consistently produce as we head into winter. Winter Storm Atticus is bringing snow to our parts and that's certainly a welcome change from the relatively balmy late fall we've had.

Umpqua Phantom X Euro Nymph Leader

A leader designed specifically for Euro Nymphing. Built to fish in changing conditions and a variety of techniques from dry dropper, to jigging streamers. It fishes well with lightly weighted nymphs or heavy bombs at long and short range. Tipped with our new Phantom X Fluorocarbon this leader is a deadly leader for this unique style of fishing. This leader makes an appearance in our latest educational video covering Euro Nymphing. If you are interested in checking out this leader and how to use it head over to our Youtube page!

Bugs For Beginners Class Openings!

At one point or another, we have been on the water and watched fish seemingly jumping all around us, gorging themselves on the thousands of bugs. As fly anglers, we've heard the expression 'Match the Hatch,' yet we continue scratching our heads while casting to fish uninterested in our flies. Without question, a better understanding of a trout's diet will help improve your success with fly fishing.

Our Trouts Bugs for Beginners class will help demystify the key food sources of trout throughout the year. We will focus on Midges, Mayflies, Caddis, Stoneflies, Terrestrials, and general attractors. Our class is designed and purposed to help you better understand the major insect groups, including identifying and fishing them effectively. You will leave our class with the capabilities to successfully 'Match the Hatch.'

These in-store classes make excellent gifts for the holiday season and should not be overlooked! Give the gift of education this year with one of our many in-store learning opportunities, there truly is something for everyone.

Well, folks, that about does it for me this week here at Trouts. I hope you all enjoyed the dusting of snow yesterday; I sure did.

As always, come swing by the shop, have a beer on the back deck if you can handle the cold winter air, or just come swing by and enjoy the space. Remember, the holiday season is quickly coming to an end, so make sure you are prepared; we have numerous gift guides filled with items that would make any angler happy.
