Trouts Fly Tying - Tying the Squirmie Worm

Ivan Orsic / Jun 7, 2018

As we mentioned in this month's edition of Five Flies, it's Junk month here at Trouts. Trouts Frisco guide Josh Diller is back with another Fly Tying installment and this time he's tying up the Squirmie Worm. While some may chide the Squirmie Worm because it's so damn junky, there's no denying its effectiveness.

Check out the materials list and some notes about tying the Squirmie Worm below the video. As always, don't forget to Subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!

MATERIALS LIST
Thread: 70 denier - Red
Hook: Umpqua TMC 2487 - Size 12
Bead: 5/32 Silver Tungsten
Squirm: Caster’s Squirmito - Bright Red

FLY TIER'S NOTES
Place the bead on the hook backward because it sets over the material you tie in the front well. The key to tying this fly is to use loose wraps. As you stretch the squirmy material, start to tighten the wraps. Don't use glue to secure this fly as it destroys the squirmy material.
