We drove down to the Trumbull section got geared up and were on the water by 9:30 AM. It was no surprise that the wind had already picked up and was howling by the time we were on the water. Fish were hard to sight in the wind and seemed a little on edge to eat. Maybe the lower flows and spring pressure. We were able to catch fish, but we had to work for them with the added wind element made for some tougher conditions.
Chad was able to sight fish pretty right away making for some good success. We noticed a lot of rainbow beds popping up recently with recent flows. An egg was good at times when fished in buckets behind beds. For the most part, the fish were on the leech, as well as some caddis stuff. The tried and true Dorsey's Mercury Caddis was a hot fly! Fish were also caught on midge stuff, the Jujubee Midge produced fish. Chad had dinner plans for the evening and didn't want to run late so we were off the water around 2:30 pm. Overall a really fun day. Chad crushed it, he mentioned, "Just the scenery was worth the price of admission." Welcome to Colorado, Chad! Good luck this season!
