It was Blue Winged Olive (BWO) weather today! For the uninitiated, that means chilly and cloudy with rain on and off. It’s not exactly what most people would consider ideal weather. But when the fish are biting, you don’t dare complain.
At first, we thought the cold weather might have thinned the hatch, but it turned out to be one of the best BWO days I’ve seen so far this year. Nymphs including worms, caddis pupae, and baetis/BWOs were productive in the morning then we fished dry flies after lunch. Long leaders and tippets and long-ish casts were key for the dry flies.
