It's JANUARY and that means midges are going to be the primary fare for trout throughout the Colorado Rockies. For those of us who are looking to avoid seasonal depression, it should be noted that we have turned the corner from losing sunlight to gaining sunlight. That's right! Days are getting longer as we progress through January and into the spring.
While midges will be the primary food this month, fish can still be had on attractors, blue-winged olives, eggs, and streamers when conditions are right.
In this month's episode, host Ivan Orsic and co-host Tanner Smith welcome Trouts Frisco's own Zeke Hersh into the studio to talk about flies, presentations, rigging, and the like for the month of January and beyond.
Next month, our good friend Garrison Doctor, an Umpqua Signature Designer and co-founder of RepYourWater, will be joining us in the studio. As always, we answer a couple of commenter questions about rigging, bug choice, fishing techniques, or maybe a little more of a backstory on this video of him wrangling a dandy of a brown trout out of a hole in the ground. If you have a question about February or anything RepYourWater - leave a comment down below on the YouTube video. If we pick yours, you'll WIN a Trouts Prize Pack - including prizes from Rising Fish and Umpqua!
For the month of January, the Five Flies are available at our Denver location and online.
