For this month's episode of Five Flies, we're excited to welcome Umpqua Signature Fly Designer Matt McCannel into the fold. We made the trip over to the west slope to visit Matt on one of his home waters - the Uncompahgre River at Pa-Co-Chu-Puk.
With warmer temperatures and increased bug life on the horizon, we're finally starting to loosen winter's grip. Midges, Blue Wings...even Caddis will start to become more active. We might be going to go out on a limb here, but we think that fish are going to be pretty excited. While there are plenty of classic flies to choose from, we sat down with McCannel to talk about his confidence flies for the month of March for technical trout.
Matt broke out his ladder for the technical trout that live in this tailwater. Whether you think it's absurd or actually smart, there's no denying that the ladder gives McCannel a different and effective perspective.
This is a wildly longer episode than normal. So, if you don't want to watch Matt climb his ladder and guide people into pretty nice rainbows and only want to hear about the flies (CLICK HERE | Apologies in advance for the terrible audio - we had a significant issue with our wireless mic system).
