Fall in the Rockies has arrived! Yep, it's finally here. Wait... what's that, you say? The first official day of fall is actually in late September? Semantics! While that might be technically correct according to astronomers and the whole autumnal equinox deal, we're partial to the Goldilocks principle when it comes to determining the official arrival of fall. Yes, we're talking about the fairy tale. You see, as the principle relates to fall, September is too hot and, well, November is simply too cold. That leaves October. You guessed it, October is just right.
What isn't to love about October? Blue-winged Olives, Caddis, midges, streamers, you name it! Trout are lining up for a proverbial, subaquatic Golden Corral. The buffet is fully stocked and it's time for the trout to chow down! Just like your incorrigible Uncle - twice removed - going back for his third helping of calorically-dense goodness, the trout are ready to pack on the pounds before Old Man Winter arrives. Let's just say, we're here for it.
BRING ON FALL (i.e., October)!!!
In this month's episode, host Ivan Orsic and co-host Tanner Smith welcomed Trouts Director of Education - Courtney Despos into the studio to talk about flies, presentations, rigging, and the like for the month of October and beyond.
As always, we answer a couple of commenter questions about rigging, bug choice, and fishing techniques. If you have a question about October fishing - leave a comment down below on the YouTube video. NEXT MONTH, our special guest will be Eeland Stribling (aka @BlackSteveIrwin), so bring your best questions for one of the Front Range's finest comedians. If we pick yours, you'll WIN a Trouts Prize Pack - including prizes from Rising Fish and Umpqua!
For the month of October, the Five Flies are available at our Denver location and online.
