Meet Phil Tereyla

I grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado and began fly fishing when I was ten years old. Growing up I had two passions: fly fishing and hockey. Playing hockey allowed me to travel a great deal and even spend a season playing Jr. A in Minnesota following high school.

I eventually decided to hang up the skates and begin my pursuit of a career in Fly Fishing. While attending the University of Northern Colorado, I began to guide full time on the South Platte River drainage while obtaining a degree in History. From 2011 to 2019, looking for additional avenues to teach anglers, I served as a contributor with American Angler Magazine. Along with text and photography work with the American Angler, my book The Flyfisher’s Guide to Colorado’s Easy Access Mountain Lakes was released in July of 2021.

Along with writing and photography, I also am a contracted signature fly designer with Montana Fly Company. My true passion is sharing the sport of fly fishing with others and am beyond grateful for the time shared on the water with great people. I currently work with Angler’s Covey Fly Shop and Guide Service in Colorado Springs.
