TRIP SUMMARY

Fun day bouncing around Silverthorne fishing the Blue! CPW free fishing weekend brought the anglers out in force but we were still able to fill in and find fish everywhere we went. They are currently letting 103 cfs out of the dam from Lake Dillon. With that, just below the gauge station, Straight Creek is hosing a bunch of extra water into the Blue right behind the Gap Outlet. On days that it is a bit off color through town, this is likely the source of that. With all of this extra water, nymphing with lots of weight is the name of the game. Get those bugs down quick! You can rope up to 4X and 5x when the flows are a bit pushier like this. A three fly rig with an attractor (egg or a leech), down to a Rainbow Warrior (18), with a small midge trailing behind has been the key to success. Fishing have been willingly taking all of the above on a regular basis. Try a Mercury Midge (cream 20) or a Zebra Midge (black 20) for your third fly.
