Big group trip put on by Scott Dickson, we met clients in Bailey at 8 am, geared up and on the water by 8:30 am. I had one experienced angler and another angler with no experience. I set the experienced angler up with my 7wt streamer rod rigged with a black sculpzilla. To say the least he CRUSHED it! By lunch he had 14 fish in the bag. A super slow retrieve was ideal for the colder water conditions. I spent most of my time with the beginner angler nymphing. Eggs and a size #16 black rs2 was the lunch ticket! On the Shawnee property there is a lake that can hold some really big fish! At lunch we fished it briefly with the streamer and the bobber rig! Post Scotts spectacular burger river side lunch we went back to the river for a short time. The wind was picking up greatly and we liked the idea of dropping in to the lake and being blocked by the lakes high banks. With spring here and the wind howling I thought a hopper dropper rig might be ideal for less tangles and also the opportunity at our first hopper eats of the year! Unfortunately they were not interested in the chubby but they were all over the blue tungsten in a size #18 about 2 ft. off the hopper. The guys had to be back at the airport for their flights so we wrapped up around 3:30. Always a fun day on the private ranches, thanks again Scott and the guys!
