Despite the lower flows Deckers was great today! We started off in the morning fishing the midge hatch a little before 9:00am and fooled a handful of fish early with small size 24 and 26 emerging midge patterns. After the midge hatch died down fishing slowed so we started to focus more attention to moving to sight fishing feeding fish. If you see a fish actively feeding that is the fish I want to fish to. After lunch the fish started to move into the riffles and we’re munching on some BWOs. Once the clouds rolled in at the end of the day we started to see a couple risers on the banks in calmer water. I always bring an extra rod for dry flies just in case a hatch starts coming off so you can always be ready.
Top flies of the day were size 24 zebra midge, size 24 chocolate emerger, size 20 olive earth baetis and of course the ol’ worm.
