TRIP SUMMARY

With rising water levels in all of the freestone rivers, some of our tailwaters are going to be the way to go. I got to fish with a couple first timers today and decided that the Blue River in Silverthorne would be a good place to get them started. We got to the lot a little before 8 and luckily only saw a few anglers all day. We started near the dam and worked down, hitting the few deeper runs that were available. Right now the water levels are very low so the deep runs were only 2-2.5ft at most. We had a few takes on eggs and mysis shrimp, both netting an equal amount of fish. Weather was mostly sunny with a few spurts of overcast clouds but overall we couldn't have asked for better. Fish seem to be piled up in the few places we found them so once you get on a pod, it's best to stay put for a little while. Light tippet and small flies are recommended.
