Nice day on the South Platte today. Water temps were very cold this morning (49 degrees) which made things a little slow to start. We caught a half dozen fish on size 20 frenchies down by nighthawk before breaking for lunch. After lunch we fished up at the Trumbull area for the afternoon. Found a lot of fish moving into the riffles around 1:00 and feeding heavily on emerging pmd’s. A size 16 Barr’s Emerger put several nice fish in the net. We also caught some fish on a size 16 pheasant tails. The pmd hatch was sporadic and didn’t see any fish rising so we stuck with nymphing. The colder water temps definitely have the fish not as active but if you’re thorough you will have success. We did some sight fishing and it would take several drifts to get them to eat. All am all a very successful day! Good luck out there!
