Had a great day fishing the Eagle River near Walcott. The smokey skies from nearby fires are keeping the Eagle a little cooler right now with morning river temps at 56 degrees. We were into fish all day but they were definitely a little picky at times. In the morning we did quite well on brown Pat’s Rubber Legs in size 10 and on tan worms. We saw a few tricos hatching and a couple rises but couldn’t get anyone to take our dry fly offerings. Mid day through the afternoon we saw quite a few midges coming off and caught most of our fish on a size 22 olive juju midge fished mid column. We ran dry dropper rigs all day and had a handful of eats on size 10 chubby chernobyl ants in tan as well. All in all a great day as we found fish in every spot we stopped at. The smoke from the fires was very thick in the afternoon so if you are sensitive to that I would avoid the area. Water temps were 64 degrees when we left at 4:00pm. Be safe out there!
