Great morning on the Arkansas River today. Night time air temps got down to 37 degrees which had the river a cool 48 degrees when we arrived. I suspect this was the reason for our slow start as we only encountered a few hook ups during the first two hours. Once the sun warmed the river up some the river exploded with caddis and midges. Size 18 sparkle pupas and size 20 zebra midges had us hooked up almost constantly the last two hours of our trip. Don’t forget about midges this time of year as the Ark is loaded with them. The trend for the morning was the fish were pushed up into the riffles feeding hard on emerging insects. 3/4 of our fish we caught in less than a foot of water. Despite the slower start it turned out to be a great morning putting lots of nice wild browns in the net. Good luck out there!
