With multiple trips on the Blue in the last week, I can confidently say it is slowing down and shaping into winter fishing conditions. Fish are down low and moving slow. This does not mean it isn’t possible to catch fish, you simply fish harder for longer trying to find those feeding windows and holding pools, it is certainly still possible. We have been gearing ourselves more towards nymph rigs and away from hopper droppers - especially in the early mornings. Go to patterns that have found success have been small baetis and egg patterns. Patterns include: wd-40s (olive - #22), juju baetis (red/purple #22), flash tail eggs (champagne #16). Small patterns catch fish this time of year.
