TRIP SUMMARY

Great float trip on the Colorado today. We floated South Canyon to New Castle. Blue wing olives were out in full force for nearly the entire day. Although we were seeing thousands of blue wings on the surface, we saw very few fish rise. The trout were however gorging on emergers mid column and a size 24 WD-40 was the ticket. I ran a drop shot rig with a size 16 Tungsten Utah killer bug on bottom and two WD-40’s roughly at 1’ and 2’ below the indicator. This set up got the job done for nearly the entire day. There is quite a bit of debris in the water and we had to continually clean our flies but it was worth the extra effort. We switched to streamers for the last couple hours of the trip and had about a dozen chase down our olive sex dungeons but none that fully committed. Lots of bumping the streamer with their nose or short striking. Good luck out there!
