As of lately the Deckers section of the south platte has been fishing fairly well for me. Flows are low at 86cfs and the warmer days are heating the river up to mid 60s, by 2 PM I have been seeing water temps at 65 in the Trumble area. With that being said I have been starting my guide trips as early as 5:30/6 AM to be able to get a full day in by 2 PM. I usually start down low and work my way closer to the dam because the close to the dam you are the cooler the water temps are. I have been seeing small midges sizes 24-30 early at the get go then as the water warms up seeing mayflies sizes 18-24 then by mid day seeing caddis in sizes 14-18. There has been some sporadic surface action but mostly catching fish subsurface. Finding fish right off the start at 6AM in the riffles and drop offs. Water is low so fish don’t have much room to spread out, where I find one I usually find a few more stacked in there. Happy fishing!
