TRIP SUMMARY

Just an awesome day on the Dream Stream! Flows are stable and healthy for this time of year and trout and moving out of the slow deep pools into runs as spring starts to set in. Nymphing was the name of the game today as the dreaded "W" has strong enough to keep the dry flies in the box. Adjust your weight and depth as the day goes on to target trout as they move up in the water column. We started out deep in pools and seams and got some good action on egg patterns. As the day progressed, we moved to lighter split shot and started getting aggressive takes on midge patterns, most notables a purple, size 18 Rojo Midge and a variety of midge emergers (Top Secret and Manhattan midge were our most productive, size 18 and 20). Getting a good, clean drift is key here so don't worry too much about cast placement and focus more on drag-free presentations. Set yourself up for a good swing at the end of the drift and let it sit there for a second or two, you'll be surprised at how many trout in the afternoon will move to snag that emerger. There are a ton of spawning beds up and down the river so please watch where you step and help help protect future generations of trout. If you can deal with the breeze and get clean drifts, you'll get fish in the net!
