TRIP SUMMARY

Denver Water has been bumping our flows for the past week and it’s come as a blessing. We really haven’t had water all summer so it’s nice to see the river flowing. With the bump in flows, fish are loving to eat some bigger food items such as worms, leeches, crane flies, and even stoneflies. With fishing the South Platte comes a lot of smaller food items as well. Although the bigger flies mentioned above were catching fish, the smaller midges, general baetis, and small caddis nymphs have been catching more fish. Focus on your drift and not your fly selection! But some flies that worked for us were black RS2s, black beauties, Walt’s worms, San Juan worms, mini leeches, mop flies, pats rubber legs, and buckskins.
